Fifteen months ago, Sandmagination opened as New England’s largest indoor sandbox. Since then, over 25,000 people have walked through our doors. Most of our expansion round is already committed, and we’re closing out the final piece to bring that same experience closer to Boston.

Why this works
Peabody wasn’t a bet anymore, it was a bet that paid off. In our first year we built a loyal base of nearly 10,000 active families, earned Peabody Area Chamber of Commerce accreditation and a BBB profile, and became a go-to destination for birthday parties, field trips, and character events across the North Shore.
A second location closer to Boston puts us in front of a much larger family market without changing what makes Sandmagination work: barefoot, screen-free, sensory play that parents actually want to bring their kids back to.
Who's building it
Katerina Krumova, PhD ā Co-Founder & CEO
Katerina holds a PhD in Chemistry from McGill University and spent over a decade leading formulation and drug-delivery R&D in the Boston biotech sector, most recently as Director of Drug Delivery at Sail Biomedicines, where she built and led a team of 8 to 10 scientists and guided programs from early discovery through scale-up and technology transfer to manufacturing partners. Before that, she led development teams at PureTech Health. That same discipline, running complex technical programs, managing budgets and external partners, and driving projects from concept to execution now shapes how Sandmagination operates. Her STEAM education background and belief in sensory play as both a learning and therapeutic tool are the foundation of the Sandmagination concept itself.
Jason Stadtlander ā Co-Founder & COO
Jason brings over 25 years of IT and infrastructure leadership to Sandmagination, including director-level roles spanning nonprofit, healthcare, and biotech environments, and hands-on experience building data center, network, and security infrastructure from the ground up. That systems-and-operations background now runs Sandmagination’s day-to-day: booking and POS systems, marketing infrastructure, vendor and facility management, and the technology backbone that keeps the business running smoothly for families and staff alike.
Together, Katerina and Jason took Sandmagination from concept to a functioning, revenue-generating venue in under two years, and they’re running the expansion the same way: deliberately, with the discipline of people who’ve built complex things before.
